Taking their name from an Andrew Bird song, it’s immediately apparent that the boys in Whales in Cubicles are hip in a genuine and real way. They take their musical inspiration from American underground heroes like Guided by Voices and Sebadoh, through to genius songwriters such as Neil Young and Stephen Malkmus, with a hint of hard rock and a touch of Britpop thrown in for good measure.
