Acid Glasses ‘Tape, Deported’ – New Mixtape
Last weekend Memphis’ Nick Burk, aka Acid Glasses was due to play his debut live performances in the UK. Unfortunately, due to issues with UK immigration, on arriving at Heathrow Airport the fella wasn’t allowed in and the dates needed to be swiftly cancelled.
As he was mightily pissed off about this, Nick has released his UK set, for free, via Memphis independent label Sunday Fir under the all-too-appropriate name of, ‘Tape, Deported’ to in some way make up for the disappointment of the cancellations.
Featuring eight brand new recordings, and including the single ‘Polnara Setera’, the mixtape is available now via Bandcamp. Acid Glasses debut 3 track 7″ (featuring ‘My Pale Garden’ and ‘JPEG Hoarder) is also still available on Stroll On.
“Joyous plunder-pop that emerges out of dizzying swirls of fuzz” – NME
“A big, brash Animal Collective-like pop song” – Music Fans Mic
“Rasping and catchy, which is all anyone should ever need” – The Pigeon Post

Acid Glasses // My Pale Garden – UK dates and 7″, Digital release
Most musical commentators see Memphis as a city of garage bands and a past that includes Elvis Presley, Stax Records and Big Star. If they were to look a little closer, they would see that a new breed of artist is beginning to emerge from the shadows of the past. A case in point is the project undertaken by Memphis native Nick Burk, who records under the name of Acid Glasses. Barely a year old, this evolving ‘band’ have already gone through many changes, and have already begun to make an impact with their own particular brand of twisted, modern psychedelia. As many as nine people have performed in the live incarnation of the band, but the concept remains fluid, and the current line up is a duo.
Burk describes the sound thus: “Like a giant indoors, so vast you could never find the walls; like the sounds are not from the natural world we all come from, at least if they ever were, they have certainly been made to adapt and evolve into a new reality. Cascading noise-chords exist within these little sonic utopias that get set off by the vocals, pitched up and into harmony with the rest of the aural terrain”.
The second Acid Glasses outing is ‘My Pale Garden’ c/w ‘Jpeg Hoarder’ and ‘Happy Accident’ and is released by Stroll On/360 Degree Music. This is the follow up to the much vaunted debut, ‘Polnara Setera’, and it’s equally acclaimed companion track (we used to call them B-sides!) ‘Sloppy Surfin’, which was praised by Greenpeace for its ecological message. The music press and blog world have already lit up and have showered Acid Glasses with praise, here are a handful of quotes:

“Rasping and catchy, which is all anyone should ever need” – The Pigeon Post

Acid Glasses – My Pale Garden 7″ announced
Following on from the success of the recently released ‘Polnara Setera / Sloppy Surfin’, Tennessee’s Nick Burk, AKA Acid Glasses, is due to release his ‘My Pale Garden’ on 7″ single and digital download through London-based Stroll On / 360 Degree Music on October 10th.
Another track from that 7″, ‘Jpeg Hoarder’, is now available to stream before he unleashes a series of psychedelically led videos out into the world. ‘Jpeg Hoarder’ finds Burk coasting more on waves of boom box bleeding serenity rather than the aural disorientation of ‘My Pale Garden’. Riding on a nostalgic bass groove, Burk’s ode-to-Wayne-Coyne vocals take centre stage as this colourful and hypnotic dance breathes a different life into his Acid Glasses guise.
Acid Glasses will also be making his debut UK live appearances in October. More details to follow.
