Rickolus talks ”Coyote And Mule”
Richard Colado, aka Rickolus, was originally going to call his new album Penelopeia, the mythical wife of Odysseus in Homer’s The Odyssey. Quite why the album ended up with the title Coyote And Mule is anyone’s guess, but one thing’s for sure: Colado has crafted a bright, direct collection of songs, uplifting and deceptively catchy, whilst retaining a lo-fi sensibility.
Here’s what Richard had to say about his video for the title track ”Coyote And Mule”
“The idea was lifted from a sequence in the movie version of The Wall by Pink Floyd. My favorite part of that movie has always been the part when “pink” trashes his hotel room then organizes all the trash. We took that idea aesthetically and added a kind of perpetual build and destroy theme to the concept that relates to the subject of the song. All relationships are a series of building and destroying and rebuilding.
I spent about a week building the set in my garage, I destroyed a boom box, a few computer hard drives, some old 78s my brother in law had, my old iPod, some cassette tapes and a multitude of beer bottles in the process. It was pretty cathartic.
The big moment in the video when I pull the sheet and the junk goes flying everywhere had to be done in one take, there was no 2nd take allowed so when I went to pull, I knew I had to pull as hard as I could to make sure it worked… I don’t think any of us were prepared for how much this garbage would fly everywhere. Long story short, Mark and Marc (the guys filming) got showered with broken glass and garbage”.
