The See See
London-based, multi-cultural band, The See See are, Richard Olson, Pete Greenwood, Kevin Peyok, Paulie Cobra, Phil Anderson and Ben Swank. Made up of former members of groups including The Eighteenth Day Of May, The Soledad Brothers, Grand Cobra and The Waxwings (as well as acclaimed singer-songwriter Pete Greenwood), The See See are a relaxed breeze of psychedelic fresh air blowing through a generally serious music industry. With five successful 7″ singles under their belt, three European tours as well as support tours with both The Raconteurs and The Brian Jonestown Massacre and the release of their debut album on CD and vinyl in November 2010 the boys are seemingly both unstoppable and omnipresent!
We caught up with Richard – on behalf of The Vinyl District – prior to the release of their 6th single…
You guys have been very busy of late on a number of fronts. You’ve put out some great tracks on vinyl, on a variety of labels, most of which are sold out. What’s your thinking behind this aggressive vinyl strategy?
It’s not a strategy. What happens happens and we go with it usually. Of course we love the format so we go with it every time someone asks us… We’ve also had a very busy year with a lot of shows and loads of new recordings…
You also got a split 7″ coming soon. When’s that happening and how did that come about?
It’s out on June 13th on Great Pop Supplement with the best new band we have heard in ages called By The Sea, I heard them on a podcast and couldn’t believe it… Since then we’ve done a few shows together and now here we are…
What about live dates. When/where can people get to see you?
We’re taking it a bit easy on gigs for the time being as we want to finish our new record but we’re doing a few festival dates and the odd Europe one. All to be found on our website.
For folks who aren’t familiar with you, tell us about the ethos and sound of the band?
We’re mainly a bunch of ragtags who got together hanging out and playing together, we love each others company and love playing together. We also like psychedelic music.
What are your plans for 2012?
Releasing the new record and touring Europe and the UK.
As a final questions, If you were left with only one album to your name what would it be and why?
As a desert island disc thing? The Notorious Byrd Brothers gets me every time….
The See See ‘Mary Soul’ + Brian Jonestown Massacre tour
Following twelve months which has seen London-based psychedelic popsters The See See, picked by Jack White to support his Raconteurs, on a UK tour, 360 Degree Music are proud to announce that the band have been personally invited by Brian Jonestown Massacre to support them on their forthcoming British tour.
The band, who feature one Swede, an American, one Kiwi and a Yorkshireman, have also released two SOLD OUT 7” singles, most recently ‘Keep Your Head’ / ‘Clap Your Hands And Shake A Chain’ (Great Pop Supplement) in 2009. The band have had airplay from the BBC’s Steve Lamacq, Mark Radcliffe, Stuart Maconie, Tom Robinson and XFM’s John Kennedy.
Although The See See is comprised of former members of groups including The Eighteenth Day Of May, The Soledad Brothers, Grand Cobra and The Waxwings (as well as acclaimed singer-songwriter Pete Greenwood), they’re fundamentally a band made up of four drinking partners, something which adds to the relaxed and unforced nature of the music that they make.
Recorded by Sean Read (The Manic Street Preachers, Seasick Steve), the band’s new single, ‘Mary Soul’ is out now and will be followed by the BJM tour, and then a support slot with Ruby Suns, at London’s Hoxton Bar & Kitchen.
